CONCEPT
Harlequin offers a psychological examination of the social persona and performative identity within The Shell series. The figure stands as an archetype of the enforced role—eternally confined within the rigid geometry of his costume and mask. The character’s melancholic, introspective gaze directly clashes with the vibrant jester’s attire, exposing an internal fracture of the self.
Expanding the core research of The Shell series, this work focuses on the deconstruction of cultural codes and individual protective mechanisms. The figure of the Harlequin is recontextualized through a stark tension between classical pictorial plasticity and systemic geometry.
VISUAL DYNAMICS & OPTICAL ILLUSIONS
The pictorial space is structured by a rigid grid of small plastic squares, acting as a unifying visual code for the entire collection. The background relies on a calculated optical illusion: while the geometric units are arranged strictly horizontally, the tonal contrasts induce a perceived spatial distortion, shifting the planar stability.

Embedded shattered mirror fragments further disorient the viewer’s gaze, transforming the panel into a flickering, disruptive interface between the inner self and the external social mask.
